1. Double-Check Air Conditioner Settings
Before you try any of the other troubleshooting steps, take the time to double-check the cooling settings. The reason why your air conditioner is blowing warm air could be as simple as the target temperature being set to an incorrect value. Be sure to verify that the settings are correct before you move onto the next step.
2. Wash or Replace Filters
Ducted air conditioning systems contain filters, whose purpose is to filter dirt, dust, mould spores, pet hair, pollen, and other contaminants out of the air in your cooling system. Over months or years, these filters become blocked with dirt and dust, which prevents cool air from flowing into your home.
To clean the filters, first remove them from the air conditioning unit. Pull away loose hair and lint and then use soapy water and a brush to gently scrub away the dirt.
If the filters are very old, you might need to replace them. Contact the manufacturer of your ducted air conditioning system to find out how to purchase replacement parts. Alternatively, reach out to one of our technicians who can replace the filters on your behalf.
3. Identify and Repair Duct Leaks
Sometimes, the problems that cause ducted air conditioning systems to malfunction are located not in the main unit but in the ducts. An important part of troubleshooting a ducted system is to check the ducts for leaks.
Typically, ducts are located in crawl spaces, basements or attics. If you can safely access these parts of your home, you can check the ducts for leaks yourself. Most leaks can be repaired quickly with duct tape.
If you do not feel confident locating and repairing leaks in the ducts, give us a call. Technicians can quickly find leaks in ducts and carry out a high-quality repair.
4. Be Aware of Electrical Issues
If your air conditioning system frequently shuts off for no reason, it could be tripping the circuit breaker that controls its electrical supply. After this happens, it is easy enough to restore the electrical supply simply by flipping the circuit breaker back into position.
If this problem keeps happening, schedule a maintenance check for your air conditioning system. A fault could be causing the unit to dangerously overheat. An experienced air conditioning technician can identify the fault and repair the unit to keep you and your family safe.
5. Schedule Regular Tune Ups
Perhaps your ducted home air conditioning system has not stopped working completely, but it doesn't seem to be working as efficiently as usual. If you notice that your energy bills are higher than normal for the time of year, schedule a tune up.
Technicians can identify less obvious problems with ducted air conditioning systems and offer solutions that could help you save energy and money.
